What to do After a Storm

9/1/2020 (Permalink)

Once a large storm has passed, it is a good idea to check for damage to your property. Doing so immediately following a storm can help reduce damage that would have otherwise worsened over time. Keep safety in mind first and pay attention to any potential hazards such as broken glass, the smell of gas, and electrocution hazards. If it is safe to move around your property, consider photographing the damage for insurance purposes. Once you have identified and photographed all damaged areas, contact your insurance agent. If the storm was large enough to be considered a disaster area, you may want to look into federal disaster assistance. Go to disasterassistance.gov to see if your area has been declared for individual assistance.
